Part 4: The Sun's Rotation
The Worksheet for this portion of the lab may be separate.
Use the images below, sun_day1.jpg and sun_day2.jpg, to determine how long it would take a sunspot to move across the Sun. You can import the images into Maxim or another imaging program.
- Describe the feature you are tracking by drawing a diagram of the Sun. Measure how far the feature moves between the two images and find the diameter of the Sun in pixels. It is important to pick a feature near the equator.
- If the images were taken a day apart, calculate how long it would take the feature to travel all the way around the Sun. Explain your reasoning and show your work. Report your answer in days.
